5 Setup
5.1 Setup check list:
Proceed with the setup of VEGACOM 557
with VEGA ASCII as follows:
I. Check hardware requirements:
VEGA ASCII-compatible Master compo-
nent
(Modus: RTU or ASCII)
Check interface type (RS 232, RS 485,
RS 422 or TTY)
VEGACOM 557 version "VEGA ASCII“
II. Carry out adjustments on VEGACOM
557 (DIL switch on additional board):
Set resolution for VEGA ASCII
Set value arrangement for VEGA ASCII
Activate interface type
Set parameter for interface
Set VEGA ASCII address
III. Provide VEGA ASCII connection and
check communication:
In case of correct communication, the
green LED marked "BA“ lights on VEGA-
COM 557.
Setup
5.2 Communication structure
Within the data communication between
VEGACOM 557 and the connected process-
ing system, the following functions are sup-
ported:
- Mode (VEGACOM 557 is slave)
VEGACOM 557 does not transmit data
without request. The Master has to request
all required data.
- Instrument address (default value # 1)
By using a bus-compatible interface (e.g.
RS 485) the operation of up to 9 instru-
ments on one interface is possible.
- Presentation:
All telegrams use ASCII characters and are
therefore readable as plain text.
- Time-based image:
There are no time periods required for
transmission.
- Value range (low resolution)
Independent of the actual position of the
decimal point, the value to be transferred is
provided with a decimal point at the penul-
timate position.
- Value range (high resolution)
The value to be transmitted is always
transferred without decimal point.
The decimal point as well as the unit of meas-
urement of the DCS value are not transferred
by VEGACOM 557!
This information must be completed by the
user in the software of the process data
processing.
